Our Modules
We’ve worked hard to create a set of modules that will empower your child to express themselves confidently and assertively.
Performing
This module is all about acting. If you love drama then this is the module for you. We are highly experienced in this field as all teachers have been through professional training and work as professional actors. Most of us regularly attend workshops and auditions with top theatre, TV and film directors. During lessons we work on a wide range of monologues, classical and contemporary, focussing on approaches to the character. At the higher levels we apply Brecht and Stanislavski’s contrasting techniques to exploring the text, which really helps support those who are studying GCSE Drama.
We have had great success in helping students prepare for Drama Scholarships with many of our students being awarded scholarships at a wide range of schools including Ibstock Place, Putney High School, Hampton and Reeds. We also have a proven record in helping students achieve places at drama schools such as Arts Ed and Sylvia Young.
Public Speaking
This module is all about how to craft an effective speech and how to present it in public. At some point most people will have to give a speech and, for many, this is something that is dreaded. We go through all aspects of speech writing and presenting and work towards achieving clear, persuasive arguments with maximum impact.
We support students entering public speaking competitions and we have had proven success, with students winning ‘Best Speaker’ in the past at ESU Public Speaking competitions. This module is also great for those wanting to take part in debating competitions and MUN (Model United Nations).
Presenting
Being able to present is a key skill that is needed in almost every field. In this module, we look at all aspects of being a great presenter. We analyse the content to be delivered (you have to understand what you are saying), as well as focussing on body language and how the voice is used to ensure that the presentation is engaging, clear and effective. We have regular formal recitals where all our students present in front of an audience. Don’t worry, we have plenty of techniques to help with those nerves!
Debating
Debating is an essential part of the way that we communicate. The ability to argue and to persuade is a valued skill within any field. It is also about self confidence. We work on building this confidence so students feel empowered to put their hands up in class, to argue their point, and to offer their opinion.
We support students taking part in debating competitions, MUN (Model United Nations) and other activities. Every week, all of our students (except Performing) are given a debate subject, based on current affairs, to prepare for the following week. Students can prepare as little or as much as they like but should come ready to argue an opinion.
Interview Skills
11 plus, 13 plus, sixth form colleges, universities, work ... there is no getting away from the fact that everyone will have to go through an interview at some stage in their career. We do not prepare students for interviews but we do prepare students to answer questions more effectively. We have a lot of experience in this and have had great success in helping students get into top schools and universities.
Social Skills
How often have you been ‘stuck’ talking to someone? You might perceive them to be ‘hard work'. Many people lack the skills to socialise and find ‘chatting’ and ‘making conversation', particularly with strangers, very hard. We have a strategy to help with this and the more you apply it, the easier it becomes. All of our lessons will cover the development of this skill as it is one that is essential to the ability to communicate.
